Benton and Lafayette dropped first round matches Monday night in the Class 3 District 16 tournament at Cameron High School, while Savannah moved into the second round.
Fifth-seeded Benton lost to No. 4 Smithville, 25-14, 25-12, while sixth-seeded Lafayette handily lost to No. 2 St. Pius X, 25-10, 25-8. Marisa Grayson led the Fighting Irish with three kills and five digs, while Micaela Bundy matched Grayson with three kills while adding three blocks.
That didn’t stop St. Pius X from advancing to face No. 3 Savannah, 25-19, 25-13 winners against host Cameron. Lindsey Partridge led the Savages with eight kills and three blocks with setter Bailee Helm providing 14 assists.
Savannah plays St. Pius X at 6 p.m. tonight in one semifinal with Smithville against No. 1 Platte County at 7:15 p.m. Platte County advanced with a bye.
Central’s season came to an end with a 25-11, 25-16 loss to Liberty in the Class 4 District 16 tournament’s first round. Kari Schram put up three kills and two blocks in the loss.
Bishop LeBlond kept its season alive in the Class 2 District 16 tournament at Grace Gymnasium.
Behind 27 assists from Kelly Walker, Jackie Ziesel recorded a game-high of 10 kills with Ashburn Holley adding nine in a 25-18, 25-12 for the second-seeded Golden Eagles against North Platte. LeBlond advances to today’s semifinal against No. 3 Mid-Buchanan, a 25-23, 25-15 winner against Plattsburg.
In the other semifinal, top-seed Maryville faces Lathrop.
Maryville defeated Trenton 25-5, 25-7 with Jordan Stiens and Jessica From recording seven kills apiece. From added a team-best seven digs. No. 5 Lathrop outlasted No. 4 East Buchanan. After winning the first set 25-23, Lathrop rolled to a 25-12 second-set victory.
