A memorial service is planned for a Trenton, Mo., soldier killed in Afghanistan in August.

Friends, relatives and brothers in arms are invited to attend and celebrate the life of Sgt. 1st Class Ronald “Twink” Sawyer at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Laredo School Gym in Laredo, Mo. A funeral was held in Austin, Texas.

Mr. Sawyer, 38, was a medic with the United States Army for 17 years. Family members said the Department of Defense told them Mr. Sawyer was killed when enemy forces attacked their Stryker vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

Three other soldiers were killed in the attack. All of the men were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade of the Second Infantry Division, based in Fort Lewis, Wash.
