The committee advocating for passage of the 63 cent school levy files four complaints today with the Missouri Ethics Commission against a group opposed to the measure.
The first complaint alleges the group, Citizens Against Forever Tax and their former treasurer, Ken Reeder, violated Missouri ethics law by failing to terminate the group 30 days after the first levy election back in April.
Three other complaints say Citizens Against Forever Tax illegally made expenditures and received contributions, spent money without authorization from their treasurer, and filed ethics reports containing expenditures not authorized by the treasurer.
In the last week, Citizens Against Forever Tax sent out mailers in the Saint Joseph area urging rejection of the levy.
Ken Reeder is listed as campaign treasurer on them, although both Reeder and Jeff Roe, a political consultant for the group, say Reeder is no longer involved with them.
Roe told Saint Joe Now the new treasurer for Citizens Against Forever Tax is local resident, Ed Catron. Mr. Catron was unavailable for comment Thursday afternoon.
The 63 cent levy is the only question that will appear on the November ballot.
