Halloween forecast: Clear skies but chilly
by St. Joseph News-Press
Friday, October 30, 2009

Ghosts and goblins may need a coat or a jacket for trick-or-treating Saturday night, but at least the umbrella can stay at home.

The weather forecast for Halloween night calls for temperatures in the upper to mid-40s from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., said Justin Gesling, St. Joe Now meteorologist. Temperatures later in the evening will dip to about 38, he said.

The good news, he said, is that the winds will be calm and there is no rain in the forecast.

“It is going to be clear,” Mr. Gesling said. “An extra layer for the costumes is going to work well.”

Here is a roundup of some of the children’s Halloween activities Friday and Saturday:

— A children’s Halloween party will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Remington Nature Center, 1502 MacArthur Drive. The party is free with admission.

— The St. Joseph Museum, 3406 Frederick Ave., will host a “Spooky Safari” party for children of participants in the “Voices from the Past” Interpretive Tours of Mount Mora Cemetery on Friday. The event will feature stories, refreshments, and activities for youngsters of all ages from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is $5. Reservations are required. Please call the St. Joseph Museum at 232-8471.

— Children’s trick-or-treat is from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Rollings Hills Consolidated Library Belt Branch, 1904 N. Belt Highway.

— East Hills Shopping Center will offer Halloween Street from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with treats, prizes, games and a costume contest for children. Trick-or-treating at the mall will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

— For those who didn’t get enough of Halloween, the Residence Council at Missouri Western State University is offering the annual Trick-or-Treat Off the Street to local elementary students. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, children can trick-or-treat their way through the residence hall. Event begins in the Commons Building, which will also offer games and activities.
