It's your call Oct. 30, 2009

Friday, October 30, 2009

Editor’s note: In keeping with tradition, Saturday is the last day the News-Press will publish comments concerning the school levy on Tuesday’s ballot. Comments received by noon today will be considered for publication.

The truth

I think our president needs to grow up and get over this petty feud with FOX News. I don’t think he realizes how juvenile and thin-skinned he appears. They don’t like me, they’re being mean to me. FOX speaks the truth, and it scares them to death.

Carry it out

I saw an article about the prisons being overcrowded. One solution to that is to quit letting the prisoners get out early on their sentences. The way to free up some of the space in prison is, the ones that got death sentences, let’s start carrying it out. Let’s give them what they deserve.

Mindless

blather

I don’t know what all this blather is about entitlement in people’s Social Security. You know we were entitled whether we liked it or not to have them take the money out of our paychecks for 50 or 60 years. Entitlement my foot. This was a government-mandated program. The deal was they would take our money and preserve it for us when we got too old or too sick to work.

Editor’s note: Social Security is a pay-as-you-go system rather than a system where money is put aside until a worker retires. This means, if you are retired, that today’s workers are paying for your retirement through their taxes.

Graveyard

of empires

I wonder what the Taliban situation in Afghanistan was back in the time when Russia was over there trying to diffuse the problems in Afghanistan. Because if you recall, they ended up getting beat and just withdrawing from Afghanistan and accomplishing nothing. It seems like Taliban is in Afghanistan now and we’re about ready to do about the same thing.

Editor’s note: The Taliban can trace its roots back to the mujahideen who fought against the Soviet invasion of the 1980s and tribesmen who spent time in Pakistani madrassas. The Taliban movement did not take over Afghanistan’s national government until 1996, seven years after the Soviets left.

Its still a mystery to me how Fox News gets people to believe they are "Fair and Balanced" and even more of a mystery why people still believe that they "speak the truth."

In regards to the article about President Obama and Fox News, I agree with the writer that the President should move on and get over the feud with Fox News. Our country doesn't have time to waste on issues like this. I believe some high level official representing the government and the American people should have Fox News up on charges for slander or worse. Its just not worth our Presidents time to do so.

For a prime-time, large, news organization to publicly smear and lie about our President and his past; and to furthermore do it misleadingly under the impression that it's reporting "news" rather than opinion should be punishable.

Sure, Fox News as well as anyone else is entitled to their opinions. The freedom of speech and ability to express ourselves openly is one of the fundamentals this great country was founded upon. It just becomes an issue when opinions get represented as facts. And, a much larger issue when individuals start to believe and represent these opinions as fact.

I don't think President Obama nor his administration are "scared to death" of Fox News. I think they are infuriated that Fox represents themselves under false pretenses and doubles the insult by broadcasting their opinions to the nation/world as the truth.

It is our responsibility as upstanding American citizens to have an opinions and thoughts about the world around us; but it is also our responsibility to make sure that our opinions are represented only as that, and not as fact. Fox News should look into becoming a more upstanding news organization.

Blather, what the editor describes is normally called a pyramid scheme. Unlike the one Madoff went to jail for, SS is a government operated scheme. Sorry you got robbed.

Fox is a Johnny come lately network that continues to be third rate. It's unfortunate that anyone relies on one source for their news and find it offensive that a network would try to smear our President, if in fact that is happening.

I don't know if it is or not, I don't watch fox anything except the world series.

I find FOX no worse than CNN- FOX just happens to be on the wrong side of the fence with Pres. Obama.

Both networks need to straighten up. But, I do not agree with the govt meddling of FOX. Its petty and makes them look immature to say the least.

Wow.. Bring Fox up on charges for slander or worse? Come on.. Explain to me how they have committed slander? Do you think other Cable News Networks should be brought up on slander as well? Like for instance, MSNBC? Or is it only slander when you are referring to the all mighty Obama. It is okay to slander Bush, McCain and Palin for example.. So what has Fox News done that is slanderous in your book?

Well, for starters, FOX said ACORN was conducting illegal activities. Oh, that was really true?

Well, what about FOX claims that one of the white House czars, Van Jones, was previously active as a communist. Oh, they proved that was true, also.

Then FOX said the white House communications director was sympathetic to Maoism. Oh, then they showed her making a speech praising Mao.

Really slanderous stuff, huh!

Nate and 1037586
It is because of uniformed people like you that we have an empty suit in the white house that apologizes for America. He has a personal agenda of socialism and he hates the principles that this country was founded on. He feels abused because his mother died and he got a first class education so he could be a community organizer. Yep he pulled the wool over your eyes and got elected and now we are all paying for his no nothing experience as he fills the white house with tax cheats, domestic terrorists, and communist/socialist czars and advisers. Do not feel alone as the main stream media is also in deep supporting every miss step. FOX is the ONLY sources of truth from the media and so far they have been fair and balanced. I think you protest too much because you know you have been had by the great fraud.

thumbs down for truth,no wonder were it going to hell in a hand basket ww.

what this president has tried to do to fox is no different than what nixon tried, wrong then wrong now. i'am shocked the other news agencies stood up for fox. might be hope yet ,or they realized they could be next if they happen to offend the white house. with out a free press we have no democracy.

so all you folks who want to throw fox in prison remenber there just another news source. if your not smart enough to sift threw the opions and make up your own minds. if the only anserw is throw all those we don't agree with in prison then you would love iran, columbia, and any other dictatorship,so guess you'll be leaving soon, bon voyage.

Great point, chara....

I like watching FoxNews, because they DO represent my views, more or less. I like how they DO invite people of the opposing view on. That's a far cry from MSNBC's idiotic "reporters". CNN, however, does much like Fox, but they lean to the left. I watch CNN and Fox, and form my opinions somewhere in the middle. So far, that's served me well.

I notice most of what Fox News does they do by showing a "clip" of the person or situation. So, I feel like I'm seeing the facts.....so where does the misrepresentation occur

Van Jones was a great example....it came out of his mouth. Is that a fact or what. What difference does it make what anyone on Fox then said.

Acorn......those clips speak for themself. Nothing Fox news said was incorrect.

Nate....they are not fair and balanced and they don't speak the truth......they merely put the facts in front of you and it's in your ballpark so (now remember this is an opinion) I think your full of prunes.

Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, none of them are "fair and balanced." Just watch the channel you like and live with that fact. I myself watch Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report. If I'm going to watch news, I like to get my laughs too.
