U.S. 136 event set

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday to celebrate a partnership in a project to improve U.S. Highway 136, east of Maryville, Mo.

Nodaway County Trails Inc.; the city of Maryville; Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments; and the Missouri Department of Transportation comprise the partnership.

The ceremony will be held at the Mozingo Nature Trails South Trailhead entrance. The program will include a short history of the partnership, unveiling of a sign, cutting a ribbon, and an inaugural bicycle ride along the highway.

The partnership began about two years ago, with a discussion about long-term trails and road construction plans. The effort resulted in wider highway shoulders for the convenience of bicyclists traveling between Maryville and Mozingo Lake.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Mozingo Visitors' Center, 32153 U.S. Highway 136. For directions, questions or information, call Dana Ternus at (660) 582-5121 or by e-mail at dana@nwmorcog.org.
