Public Libraries To Close Sundays

Budget cutting and attrition have not gone far enough at the St. Joseph libraries. Now, one day a week must be cut.

About 98% of the St. Joseph public library funding comes from taxes. When tax revenues are down, budgets suffer.

The downton, main library and the East Hills library are the only locations that are open Sundays. Now both will close Sundays to help stretch the budget further.

Mary Beth Revels is the director of the st. joseph public libraries. she says they have implemented many cost-cutting measures to try and keep from having to lay off employees and cut hours.

For those needing to return books, you can of course use the drop boxes located at the four public library locations. Downtown, East Hills. Washington on the Northside and Carnegie on the Southside.
