
St. Joseph is only a demolition away from getting its IHOP. A sign for the International House of Pancakes popped up sometime last week yet the structure perched on the hillside doesn’t look like the usual blue and white eatery. That’s because it’s not.
Gas below $3There may be one good thing to come out of the market crash on Wall Street. Gas prices are below $3 per gallon in St. Joseph with many stations posting prices at $2.99 per gallon on Sunday.
Chick-fil-A looking to land in St. JosephThe site at the Shoppes at North Village just wasn’t working. That’s what a Chick-fil-A spokesman said. The spot, right at the entrance near Chili’s, has had a troubled life.
IHOP locating on North BeltIHOP submitted plans with the city of St. Joseph this week for a new restaurant at 3804 N. Belt Highway, near Culver’s and Fritz’s Carwash. The city’s building development team is reviewing the plans.
Panera breaks breadIt was hard not to drool at the Panera Bread opening-day festivities this morning. From the second I walked in the door, my senses were overloaded. Not only were there almost wall to wall bagels, pastries, breads and cookies, but the smells of fresh brewed coffee, eggs and whipped frostings were overwhelming.
Jimmy John’s to open ... soonJimmy John’s will bring its gourmet sandwiches to The Belt sometime in the next week. Maybe. I just don’t know for sure. I know what you’re thinking. “Wow, the reporter is so lazy that he didn’t even track down the date for the restaurant’s opening.”

We ran a brief notice about the credit in Wednesday’s paper, along with a phone number to call the Missouri Department of Revenue for more information. The number led callers to an automatic answering system, then put them on hold while customer service representatives were busy. I called the number several times and never got through to talk to a person.
Hoof & Horn may reopenRoy Swope’s hopes to reopen the Hoof & Horn Steakhouse are still alive.
“We are just awaiting the final piece to the puzzle,” he said. “It’s always been the intention (to reopen) ... but we just kept running into stumbling blocks.”
Panera Bread will break bread on Aug. 15. The highly anticipated sandwich and bakery shop will open its doors at 6 a.m. and will officially cut into a six-foot-long baguette at 9:30 a.m.
What do you want to see on the South Belt?The retail scene is changing in St. Joseph. The Shoppes at North Village have brought in a lot of national stores and restaurants. Some well known St. Joseph businesses, such as Jerre Anne’s, have closed recently.
Small fire delays Cheddar’s openingA Wednesday night fire at Cheddar’s Casual Cafe has caused the restaurant to open a little later today. “We’re not open until noon,” said Chris Enright, president of the Shamrock Restaurant Group LLC, which owns the restaurant at 5302 North Belt Highway. Cheddar’s normally opens at 11 a.m.
McDonald’s opens on RiversideSt. Joseph has another McDonald’s restaurant. The restaurant located inside Speedy’s Convenience Store at Riverside and Mitchell has opened.
Taco Bell owner restocking tomatoes at restaurantsTomatoes are coming back on the menus at Yum Brands' restaurants, including Taco Bell. The Louisville-based fast-food company says it's starting to resupply its restaurants with tomatoes from areas that have been cleared of salmonella risk by federal health officials.
