ROCK PORT, Mo. — Vera Edna (Walker) Crabtree, the daughter of Earle and Amy (Yates) Walker, was born in Burlington Junction, Mo., on March 14, 1912.
She attended school at Burlington Junction, graduating in 1930.
On March 19, 1932, Vera was united in marriage to Donald Crabtree in Burlington Junction. They made their home in Burlington Junction their entire married life. In 1997, Vera moved to the Fair Oaks senior housing in Rock Port, Mo. In 2004, she became a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home, where she lived to the present time.
Vera passed away at Pleasant View on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at the age of 97 years.
Vera was a member of the First Christian Church in Burlington Junction. She was also a member and former secretary of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, a member of the Burlington Junction Alumni Association, a past member of the Busy Body Club and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing for the Hope Project, gardening, reading, cooking, and baking. Her greatest love was raising her family and taking care of her home.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; their son, Monte; one sister, Dorothy Hayes; one brother, Jack Walker; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Lois Baker of Shenandoah, Iowa; Paul Crabtree and his wife, Bonnie, of Grand Junction, Colo.; Elwin Crabtree of Grand Lake, Colo.; Marvin Crabtree and his wife, Lynne, of Peoria, Ariz.; Amy Moore and her husband, Jerry, of Rock Port, Mo.; and Carol Crabtree of Independence, Mo.; sisters: Esther Barr, Tulsa, Okla.; and Donna Jean Sallee, Chariton, Iowa. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7, First Christian Church, Burlington Junction. Interment: Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 6, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Mo.
