Jessie M. (Ellsworth) Farrell, 86, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at her home, surrounded by all her loving family.
Jessie’s wishes were to live in her home and the family accomplished her wishes until she passed away.
She was born in Hamburg, Iowa, and lived in St. Joseph most of her life.
She married Richard Farrell of Creston, Iowa, on August 25, 1975, and he preceded her in death.
She was previously married to Lee W. Ellsworth, on May 17, 1943.
She owned and operated her own grocery store called Ellsworth Grocery on South 16th from 1958 to 1963. She also owned and managed several rental investments.
Jessie was also preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Lula (Ward) Edwards; daughter, Juanita Lee Thorp; grandson, Larry Lynn Pilgram Jr.; four brothers, Charlie Osborn, Chester Edwards, Calvin Edwards, Cedric Edwards; two sisters, Bernice Perry and Doris Carpenter.
Survivors include daughters, JoAnn Cobb, Jackie Kay Butler and her husband Gary L. Butler, all of St. Joseph; and two grandsons, Kevin Thorp and Jason Pilgram.
She was also blessed with one special granddaughter, Caitlynn Butler. She has three great-grandchildren, Ashton Pilgram, Alexandra Pilgram and Jadon Pilgram. The last of her living brothers is Albert Earl Branson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery.
