I feel that charity should begin at home. That includes helping needy people, buying locally and hiring locally. Part of the selling of the commitment to the project was to bring in money locally. I still have reservations about the boom to the community when there are chain restaurants and motels and now a builder from out of state located here. I understand stewardship being responsible spending but if big money is to be made from the project, I would still prefer the building being done by locals. In a way, that is still good stewardship of the money.
I thought the basic idea was to keep the Chiefs in Missouri so we could keep the revenue in Missouri and then MWSU hires a Kansas contractor??? Surely Missouri could have made some concession to accept Missouri bids within a certain percentage or that they be given preference. They say they are using "some local contractors". Again, this is Buchanan County taxpayer money and Missouri State taxpayer money building this facility and we don't control who benefits from it. It is all just wrong.
Does anyone have a complete list of the contractors and their offers or is that a closed door deal? I agree with MichaelH on local (as in St. Joe) not having the experience. BlueScope of KC, MISSOURI seems well qualified and experienced(note: 3 pages not just one: http://www.bucon.com/project_gallery/list.asp?page=1&thumbnailView=0&txtProjectName=&selCategory=113&selState=0&selCountry=&txtSFStart=&txtSFEnd=&theCity= ). BUT, I can't find a list of bidders.
I am with you xtreme, as far as michaelh, you just had to bring some divisive rhetoric to the table didn't you? you and your way of thinking is what is wrong with our country today you are always ready to sell out your own.
The state board should have required them to choose a MO company if any were within a certain percentage of the lowest bid.

Well since MWSU selected a Kansas contractor to do construction, when MWSU needs funding for future projects they can ask Kansas for help.

I think its not bad to let Kansas in on the action. We get the camp they get the contract. Both states have lots of Chiefs fans.

It will be interesting to see if any local subs submit "acceptable" bids to the contractor.
