St. Joe Youth Alliance won't win fans by getting this ordinance shoved down our throats. This is totally anti-business. When I was under 21 I used to get thrown out of bars after 9pm. I would just ask my over-21 friends to buy me alcohol so I could go home and drink it. That is the real problem my friends. Instead of a frivolous ordinance like this why not enforce stiffer fines and penalties against bar owners? I hope the Youth Alliance is happy. They just ran off potential donors.
I worked many years in bars in St Joe and did not have to jump thru hoops because I knew the laws and obayed them. I had respect for my employers and cared about my job! Today its like people do not care they are just there for the pay check. If they get caught selling to a minor they just go to another job! All the training in the world will not make them care!
Minors can and do loose their licences if they found with booze. They can recieve jail time and they do get fined. Persons of legal age that supply booze to minors are also held accountable under current state laws. Bars, clubs and sdore that fail to do their job and sell to minors are breaking the law should also be held accountable. The new rules are not anti business. It requires that everyone be aware of the laws, how to spot a fake id, and also help bartenders to know the laws abour over serving a person of legal age. Many communities and states require any person in a position where they serve booze to go through the same type of training. As someone who has worked in the service industry I applaund the city and our community groups for bringing about this needed change. Many restraunts in town give perhaps a 10 to 15 minute course on the rules and laws pertaining to this issue. If you go to some restraunts here in town you become aware that some do not card when a drink is ordered. Some places are great with making sure their bartenders and servers follow the law. Some places even have drink limits where they may cut a person off after 2 or 3 drinks and some will not accept out of area id's due because it can be hard to varify that the id is legit and not doctored. I have had to turn people down for drinks before because I didn't think it was them in the picture or the id was worn and the protective hologram was damaged.
