I can't tell you how disappointed I am to see the early result in this poll. While there can be plenty of honest debate as to whether or not we should have been in Iraq, there is NO doubt as to why we are in Afghanistan.
America has the greatest military ever. When the people get behind our troops they can not be defeated. So let's back our troops and give them what they need to win. Let's not tie their hands behind their backs with restrictive rules of engagement and fight to win, not to just fend off Al Quida.
That's exactly the problem. We are not there to win. I'm sorry, but this is just another Viet Nam. Money, Money, Money. I really don't think we'll ever know the truth about "Why" we are there. Aren't we all just a little bit tired of this war thing? 911. If that's the real reason, then we should have fought to win this war from the beginning. We should have nuked the whole damn country. No, let's just send our troops over as a sign of strength, pop a few caps, lose loved ones in the process, all in the name of retaliation. Whoopee damn do! We've really accomplished alot during the last 8 years haven't we? And if we keep fighting this war the way we are, with conventional ground troops, we'll still be there 8 years from now. Bring our troops home. Secure our borders. Stop throwing good money after bad. Let the animals in the middle east kill each other and solve their own problems. "The only way to win is to never play the game!" We haven't learned much in the past 40 years, have we?
I can assure you my 2 grand sons who are now in Afghanistan and Iraq did not volunteer for the armed forces to go fight a war they would not be allowed to win. They need more troops to back them up and to win this war. They volunteered so the wars would be fought ,and won, over there and not here. I deeply resent people that disrespected our troops, disagree with the war if you must, BUT know the young men and women that have volunteered to go into the service at a time of war knew what they wanted to do and why they were doing it. They all had their reasons and one of them was NOT to lose this war or to be pulled out before it is over. Please listen to the military and the generals that are there as to what they need, not the politicians sitting in Washington. Our troops need more support, send it to them. Of course I want my grand sons home but let them finish what they started, with enough forces and all the equipment they need. Don't make the hell they are in for nothing, don't let all their sacrifices be for nothing.
Lord, keep our servicemen and women safe, whether they serve at home or overseas. Hold them in Your loving hands and protect them as they protect us. Let's all keep those currently serving and those who have gone before, in our thoughts. They are the reason for the many freedoms we enjoy.
I'm about sick of the notion that because you think we need to bring our troops home that we're somehow against them. Take that attitude and do what you want with it, but it doesn't nee projected on me.
The love and compassion for our troops is what drives my opinion that they need to be here, not over there.
This land is where empires go to die - do you people not read a fricken' history book?!?!?!?!
If we're going to nuke them, then let's do it. However we can't go in there just like every other failing army and expect different results.
I swear some of you soldiers' parents are the worst about this crap because you have a very subjective point of view. Stop and think for a moment - you really think the US armed forces are completely different from ANY other army in history? Of course not! Maybe a bit more advanced but that's it.
We're fighting in an empire graveyard with the same damn strategy that Genghis Kahn did and we expect to somehow have different results.
Ask Kahn how his "surge" worked. All it did was kill his warriors quicker.
You want your sons and daughters to die quicker? You owe it to your sons and daughters to educate yourself not only with history, but history of Afghanistan as well and it's correlation to the fall of empires past.
I find it funny that we all seem to have our own opinions on this matter, and we seem to know it all. I don't claim to know it all but one person who does know a thing or two about what is going on over there is Gen. Stanley McChrystal, and we all know his opinion on this matter.
If we can't learn from our past mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them. We can't even find an the old man supposedly responsible for 911. How on earth are we going to win a war using ancient warfare tactics. I feel for our troops that are put in a no win situation. If they were drafted I would feel even more. Bring the troops home. Save lives. Save money. You want to keep contributing to the War Machine? Go right ahead. Eight more years from now, you'll be asking the same question. War----What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. In the meantime, more troops will be arriving home in a box. And then we can ask the same question ---- What did he/she die for?
LibertyOrDeath:: I do tend to agree , to a point ,with you. But calling parents and grandparents of soldiers names and putting them down, really??, is that called for? I was giving you the opinion of one of my grandsons who is here with me on leave. He was ,and I was not really saying that YOU didn't respect our soldiers or back them. But people like the lady in the local restaurant last night that came to our table and ask our grandson how he could possibly wear his uniform in there or even live with himself or sleep at night while he was killing innocent people and fighting a war that the people of the United Stated sees as a joke and thought they were just dumb for being there . Do you know how that made him feel ? He is barely 20 years old and is doing what he feels is his duty ,to protect us ,and his family as well as yours, by keeping the war there and not here. As for your "do we want them to die sooner", that's just cruel and very wrong. I respect your opinion, and I respect and Thank my grandsons ,and all other soldiers, doing what they believe to be the right thing. I am not asking you to agree with the war just be aware that some do. And that as parents and grandparents the first heartache we have is having our loved ones there, even if it is their choice, the second is people like you that keep saying it's useless and that they will all die. A bit of human compassion is needed by all ,no matter how they feel about the war Oh and yes I ,too, lived through Viet Nam and saw my husband and brother spit on when they returned home from the war. My husband was a prisoner of war for months and returned home to be spit on. They didn't deserve that NOR do my grandsons. They are soldiers , following orders, and doing what they believe is right . All I ask is support and respect for them.
