It's like my government professor told me, Missouri Minimum is what this towns slogan should be. People want good schools and teachers, no matter if you like the board of education or not those things cost money. Jobs are hard to come by and money is tight for everyone so I can see where people are coming from, but in St. Joseph we could all be sitting on millions and wouldn't want to pay for anything. We would just demand perfection and B**** about it if we don't get it.

If you keep throwing money and people at problems, you'll never find the real solutions.......

If you deny the resources to solve the problem, you'll never find the real solution.

Let me borrow a biblical quote here that seems appropriate - from Matthew . . . "For where your Treasure is, there your Heart will be also . . "

Are there other problems in the district? Yes, maybe. But if we use (or claim) the existence of those 'problems' to avoid increasing our investment, then do we really care . . . or are we just looking for excuses to withhold our treasure?

Finding that we rank among the bottom third, and then trying to justify that fact by saying that the district isn't doing everything exactly right should embarrass us.

I think we should be asking for more money. This isn't going to solve the problem, and it will cost us money to do this whole thing again in a few years.

Maybe if we put a school building on a river boat, and park it near down town, more students will attend, they will shop at the down town business, and rainbows will sprout forth from all of our children, and they too might receive a letter from publishers clearing house...."You have just won a Nobel Peace Prize"

I mean that’s how all of you suckers in Missouri finally passed the bill to allow river boat gambling. The school district just needs to figure out a new and better “hook” to get you all to bite.

You could call it a magnet school, the St. Joseph Gambling and International Relations Floating School of Change.

That should get enough votes to raise new revenues.

Then in a couple of years, you can have the fire marshal declare that it is unsafe, sell it to New Orleans and move the kids back into the old buildings.

Without adequate operating funds, private schools will be the only viable option for parents that want the best for their children. With that said, cutbacks are in order and maybe the higher ups need to start paying for their own cars, etc. And maybe it isn't necessary to have a media center in full operation. Let's focus the funds we do have on the reason we have schools, the kids!
