Trails West! organizers will once again rely on a young blonde country star, and a few other acts, to bring in the crowds in 2008.
The Allied Arts Council announced Wednesday that blues guitarist Robben Ford, country stars Kellie Pickler and Ashton Sheperd and ’80s rock band Night Ranger will perform on the main stage at this year’s 15th annual Trails West! Music and Arts Festival, which takes place Aug. 15 through Aug. 17 at Civic Center Park.
Robben Ford, the Grammy-nominated blues guitarist who played Trails West! in 1996, will return to play the festival on Aug. 15. Ashton Sheperd, according to Erich Uhlhorn, entertainment chair of Trails West!, has a buzz around her similar to the buzz Taylor Swift had when they booked her last year and whose single went to number one on the country charts leading up to the festival. She will share the stage with “American Idol” season five finalist Kellie Pickler on Aug. 16. Night Ranger, known for the hit single “Sister Christian,” will close the festival on Aug. 17
Teresa Fankhauser, executive director for the Allied Arts Council, says she thinks the lineup’s diversity and appeal to different age groups could lead them to similar success this year.
“I think it’s great. I think it reaches multi-generations,” Ms. Fankhauser said. “We could have lightning in a bottle twice.”
