Saying something

The number of people Tasered is simply an indication of a problem we have with our Police Department and their attitude toward the citizens of this community. There’s a rise of violence and attacks upon the citizens but pretended attacks on the police.

Colgan center

I’m calling in reply to the person who wrote in concerning putting our special-needs kids in a special building. The district already has a facility like that. It’s called the Dan Colgan Alternative Resource Center, which is the prior Woodson children’s place at 36th and Frederick.

Mass segregation

In response to the kids’ special building, I just have one comment. If you’re going to segregate the kids when they’re in school, when are you going to stop? We all have special needs and we all need to be treated with respect. To say that children without behavioral problems need to be segregated and are better than a child who does have behavior problems is wrong. Maybe you need to be segregated.

Price points

Question of concern. Why is the cost of prescription drugs for veterans at the VA pharmacy that are prescribed by the VA doctor $8 for a 30-day supply, when the veterans can get many of the same prescribed drugs for $4 at local stores, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, Hy-Vee and Price Chopper? As a veteran, I saved $20 for the same drugs. It’s not right to charge the veteran the extra amount by the VA.

Shock to system

I hate to see anybody with a heart condition getting Tased. I think it would be better than getting shot to death. I think I would do what I was told rather than to be Tased if I had done anything wrong. Well, what do I know.

Behind bars

Well, it looks like Mr. Lager wants to join into this orgy of legislation to try to somehow punish abusers of children. He wants sex offenders to stay home on Halloween night. Is he really addressing an actual problem? Is there really going to be an increase of sexual crimes against children on Halloween more than any other day of the year? And more to the point, it seems like so many of these laws that these guys try to pass having sex offenders register aren’t even addressing the actual issues. No 1, most sexual abusers of children are family members. If you really want to punish them, the best is the tried and true, which is make the sentences when these people are convicted to actually be longer.

I am getting tired of hearing the whining about "too many people being tasered." The number of people being tasered is simply an indication of the lack of respect that people have for the law in today's society. If people would simply follow the directions given to them by law enforcement officers the number of tasings would decrease. But we can't do that in todays society, we have to "oppose authority"... Instead of abiding by the officers directions many people in today's society have decided that it is okay or even their "duty" to ignore their directions and either run or argue and fight with them. I doubt VERY seriously that any "innocent" people are being tasered. If you don't like it then go to your children and teach them to respect the laws and the people who enforce them. There is an easy solution; when the police tell you to stop, you stop. When they tell you to get down, you get down, when they tell you to get in the car, get in the car. Don't give them a reason to use them.

You can follow all of the rules that a cop orders and still get tased. Ever hear of a rogue cop? You can obey the laws and still get tased. You can break no laws and still get tased. It happens all over the country all the time.

Dondill...So this has happened to you? If not, my guess is that you live on the bubble of the law.

Dondill, you have been watching too many movies! Do what your told and you won't get tased or rough-housed or anything else. Learn that you don't necessarily need to respect the man, but you do need to respect their position and authority.

A Very dirty City

Why is St Joseph such a dirty city? Drive down most streets and you will encounter trash, discarded tires, and unwanted waste. What do other cities do to stop this problem? Am I the only one that sees the mess? Surley our city officials and health enforcers can see it. I recently had visitors from California, a frind who grew up here. I was ashamed and embarrassed when we drove around our old neighborhoods. I have lived in this city, except for the time I spent in the service, for nearley 60 years. I believe St Joe is at it's dirtiest. I try to do my part, I wont throw even a gum wraper out on the street, I spend several days a week picking up trash on the street and alley around my house. I just wish everyone would take a little pride in their home town and discard of their trash properly. Would more fines, or better enforcment of existing codes help?

Hoping things improve. BA

Before anyone runs out to by a bottle of the "Slim & Cleanse" plastered all over section A5 of the paper today, you might wanna check with your doctor. When I researched the topic on WebMD I read that your colon cleanses itself and that we don't have "impacted fecal matter". If you cleanse with a product like this you might remove the good bacteria needed by your colon! A large majority of the colon cleanse products are a gimmick and a scam. You want to lose weight? Change your eating and start exercising - its the oldest method, but its SURE to work. (Go to webmd.com and look up colon cleanse products or talk to your doctor.)

Price points...Why is it that those medicines are only $4 at a select few pharmacies? Why aren't they that price everywhere? Give me a break. You should appreciate what services you get from the VA and if you find a less expensive copay for medicines, then by all means go get it. These pharmacies get price cuts through negotiation with the pharmaceutical companies. Possibly the VA does not. I'll tell you, it 's no different than any other type of insurance, you have to shop for the best price. No one ever promised you the VA would be the least expensive. No one is gouging the cost for the veterans, No one is out to get you or against you just because there is a price difference. Why don't you ask some of the other pharmacies that do not offer the $4 medicines why they are charging you more?
