Stagnant and happy

I’m calling in about “Stopping already.” What kind of un-education do you have? I mean, come on. For a city to grow, you have to build new homes, which is going to put a strain on everything. The thing is, this city needs to work on this infrastructure at the same pace that the housing market grows, if not a little faster. That way, when someone wants to build a new 400 unit, the infrastructure is already there. That’s the problem. The place is needed or else the contractor wouldn’t want to build it. If he’s not going to rent the units, then he’s not going to build it. It’s just plain and simple. So the city needs to catch up.

Slum tenants

I am so sick of reading in the paper about slum landlords. Let’s print the piece about slum tenants. There are just as many of those as landlords. You get people in your house, and they tear off your carpet. They tear up your walls. They fight with each other. They put holes in your walls. The police come to your rental property because of all the fighting. And when they move out, there is blood from the fights left all over.

Herding cats

I guess what I’ve called in for today is just to let everyone know that if you have cats, please take care of them. Please keep them around so that you know what they’re doing. I know that we don’t have a leash law for cats, and that’s a shame, because the dogs don’t climb on your cars, and they don’t do a lot of the things the cats do. So, watch out, baby birds this season because cats everywhere are actually taking them out.

Government control

I agree with the caller who said that we should make our own decisions on whether to wear seat belts. I am a careful, defensive driver, and I find seat belts very uncomfortable and distracting. I don’t need the government to protect me from myself anyway. I am capable of making decisions regarding my own life. And if the government wants to help me out, I can think if a lot of things I need more than someone threatening me with this “Click It or Ticket” thing. Why doesn’t the government ask me what I really need?

This is in response to the "Government Control" piece in the It's Your Call sections. The reason there might be a law requiring people to buckle up is if you are permanently disabled in some way from an auto accident and you didn't bother to wear your seat belt, the state and the taxpayers will be the ones paying your disability or medical care. Did anyone think of that?! You leave a simple, intelligent decision like this, up to people and they act like children. Refusing to wear a seatbelt because it wrinkles clothes or is uncomfortable. Seriously?! If you want to drive a car there is responsibility that comes with it. Wise up people and act like adults!

To "Government Control",
I agree with you. I feel that pushing on the brake pedal requires too much effort so when I approach an intersection while children are crossing the street I should have the right to not have to slow down. I also won't turn my lights on at night because I find it distracting to do so. You say you don't need the government to protect you from yourself but unfortunately the rest of us do need the Government to protect us from folks who think like you. wearing a seatbelt is required by law, you can't pick and choose which laws you think you should have to follow. Uncomfortable and distracting? Good grief, grow up would you!
