No wonder
I’m calling in about the bad eating habits. The person who called this in must be a big authority on children, and the rest of us don’t know much about how to raise our children. My grandchildren don’t live on Happy Meals. My grandchildren have very good meals at home, including vegetables and fruit. To me, a cup of macaroni and a peanut butter and a jelly sandwich is quite a few carbs for children. No wonder the children are getting obese. Did you stop to think about this?
Ad works on fools
To me, the Sam Graves people probably have it right. That’s probably a very effective ad for this area. I mean, you’re touching on homophobia, mixing of the races, on lots of stuff that Sam Graves has little to do with. As for me, I’m not homophobic. I’m not afraid of the mixing of the races. And I realize that most people in San Francisco have a much higher standard of living than most Northwest Missourians do. But for the fools who buy into that stuff, it might be a very effective ad.
Punish the thief
I hope the prosecuting attorney’s office will see fit to do justice for those of us who have had their grave decorations stolen at Memorial Park cemetery. This person is lower than a slug’s belly. I can’t believe someone would be so heartless to go out there and do this. For the past several years, when we’ve gone to retrieve our things from the plots of our family, they are already gone.
Missing morel
A few weeks ago, I had a morel mushroom carved out of cedar stolen from my husband’s grave at Memorial Park cemetery. I thought maybe when they were mowing they had picked it up. I spoke to a worker, and they said they weren’t allowed to do that. It takes a real lowlife individual to steal from the deceased. The mushroom is very distinguishable. It was handmade, and there’s not another one like it. My husband was an avid mushroom hunter, and this was the first mushroom season since his passing. My daughter and I had the mushroom made to sit at the grave site during mushroom season. We were going to pick it up during Memorial Day weekend and replace it with flowers, and obviously that didn’t happen. We have a fish out there now, if the thief would like to take it, also. What about the rest?
Someone called in, and it was entitled “Choosing to die,” and it said the insurance companies should not have to pay medical bills for anyone who’s not wearing a seat belt. Well, maybe so, but maybe insurance companies shouldn’t pay for those who smoke cigarettes, those who drink or those who are obese. There are a lot worse problems in this country than people not wearing their seat belt. A seat belt should be a choice to make on our own.
To "what about the rest"
Smoking, drinking and eating are not against the law. Driving without a seatbelt is. Besides the fact that it is just plain stupid to not wear one. If you are a kid you need to understand that you are not invincible and if you are an adult then please start acting like one. I hope you are never in a bad car accident but if you ever are I hope that you have your seat belt on......even though you whined about having to wear it.

But I guess when I am in the car Its not my body anymore and I have to wear a seat belt. This makes no sence at all except for the simple fact they can not tax seat belts and they can tax liquor and cigarettes. I wonder what the ratio of deaths from no seat belt are vs lung cancer from smoking is.

That should be reason enough for any sensible person to wear seat belts. Is a few wrinkles in your dress worth taking that kind of chance? I wonder if you at least buckle in your grandkids?
I wear my seat belt and would even if there was no law to tell me to do so. I only worry how far laws will go in the future to "protect us". Will they start to limit how much we eat our how much TV we watch. I think its only a matter of time before we start seeing laws like this.

But as an adult there are still a few things that I feel should be left up to me. Mr America is right when are "they" going to give us more "for our own good" laws. When they do lets see what you have to say when its a new law that you do no agree with. Instead of cracking down on me for not wearing a seat belt why don't they crack down on all the red light runners, speeders, and in general bad drivers?

I simply wondered if you chose to let your grandkids ride around without one on. Don't you think they see you not wearing a seat belt? Don't you think that because they see that you don't wear one that they could also think it is not important and perhaps take theirs off while riding with you? Kids are a lot smarter than people think. A great deal of what children learn is through watching adults, you set an example by your actions. Besides, why is it important that your grandkids be buckled in but not yourself. Come on, just think about what your saying. Seatbelts don't harm you and they may save your life someday. This is a "no-brainer".
Act like adults, be responsible and wear your seat belts! If you decide NOT to be ready for the consequences, like a ticket, permanently debilitating injury, or worse, death. If you can prevent something, why not just do it? Are we so stupid that the state has to force us protect ourselves by buckling up? Are we not intelligent enough to do that on our own? Obviously not.

That would cover not using seat belts, making killer rap videos for youtube, rock fights in alleys, and loads of other unwise acts. Private acts of stupidity would still be allowed to a certain degree. Maybe a stupid tax could be put in place with all the procedes going towards the destupification of St. Joseph.

It was not established for "individual" welfare nor the enforcement of moral law. I do believe seat belts should be a choice. Personally, I always wear one, and demand any passengers in my vehicles wear one as well. However, it is not within the scope of our government, whether federal, state, or civil, to mandate such actions. What's next, a law rationing salt? Maybe a law mandating the use of hats when exposed to direct sunlight? Better yet, a law limiting the number of cheeseburgers an individual may consume within a certain period. Our government needs to get back to what's important, and in turn, I am sure it will save us all a fortune in taxes by abolishing these penny ante legislations.
Unfortunately, sometimes it becomes necessary for the government to step in and protect some people from themselves, Sometimes when people cannot make "common sense" decisions you have to do it for them. Should we let people drive 100 mph on the Belt Highway just because they tell you it should be their choice to do so. Please stop with the "out of control" government argument...at times the argument works but it just doesn't fit here.

Personally, I value our democratic government. I could not tolerate a socialist government or dictatorship. You reference speed limits as an argument, speed limits are an entirely different class of law, speed with relation to the control of an automobile, affects other people. Speeding at 100 mph down the belt costs others their safety and livelihood, not wearing a seatbelt only harms the individual.
