The burglary of a local church Sunday put a youth mission trip to Nicaragua in doubt.
The burglary at Eastside Baptist Church, 2400 N. Belt Highway, occurred sometime between noon and 7:34 p.m. Sunday when someone made a forced entry into a secretary’s office and took money, said Capt. Kevin Castle, a spokesman for the St. Joseph Police Department.
Throughout the weekend, the church hosted a garage sale to raise funds for seven youths and four adults to participate in the mission trip later this summer.
“The garage sale went real well, and they took every dime of that,” said Dr. Larry Lindsey, the pastor.
Plans for the Nicaragua trip started about a year ago, and the young people saved money all year to pay the expenses, Dr. Lindsey said. The trip cost about $1,500 per kid, he said. The church hasn’t reached a decision on what to do about the trip but will try to find a way to replace the missing funds, the pastor said.
The report indicated that someone took money from an offering box about a week before the burglary, Mr. Castle said. Police did not disclose the amount of money that was taken.
I cannot think of what kind of person would enter a house of God and do such a thing. I am sure when the time comes they will have to answer for their sins.
Maybe these people should enter the church on Sunday from the front door and attend a service. Look the children who you stole from in the eye and pray for forgiveness.
