Domestic production

We keep hearing about all of the oil that we’re buying from foreign countries. Could the News-Press find out how much of our oil produced here in the United States is going to the foreign countries instead of staying here?

Editor’s note: According to the U.S. Energy Information Agency, the United States consumed 20.7 million barrels of petroleum products a day in 2006 and produced 5.1 million barrels per day. The United States exported 1.3 million barrels per day, with imported oil making up the difference between domestic production and consumption.

Get ready for school

I was just wondering when school is going to start. I haven’t seen or heard the date they are going to start. And did they just decide to keep going for five days or what? Could you please put a little something in the paper on that for us?

Editor’s note: Monday, Aug. 25, is the first day of classes for the St. Joseph School District. School will be held five days a week.

It’s all about greed

Listen up. If oil companies are making record profits, you cannot blame the Middle East for the high gas prices. It’s our own companies’ greed.

One ballot

I went to the polls today to vote. And you cannot vote for the man you think ought to be in office. You’ve got to take a Democrat or a Republican ballot. And I don’t vote for either party. I vote for the one I think is qualified for the job. And I don’t think it’s right how our polling system is.

Look forward

I am a fire-breathing liberal and I’m proud of it. I am excited about this upcoming election and I want Obama to win. And we liberals need to insist on a bold aggressive agenda, most especially universal health care and global climate change. We need to end our dependence on foreign oil and bring this war to a responsible close. I enthusiastically back Sen. Obama’s candidacy and his proposal to launch a $150 billion program to develop alternative sources of energy. The goal is by 2018, the Saudis drink their own oil. Hear me roar!

so what do we do until 2018? Alternative energy research is something we need to be focusing on, but we can't be ignorant tot he fact that if you want to push a train, pull a barge, or pull a tractor-trailer, you still need a combustion engine and there simply isn't an alternative to this point. Let's stop hand-cuffing ourself and go after our own resources.

I'm sure everything Obama says will come true. That's the way it works. Didn't Bill Clinton promise universal health care?

I've been in the hospital in three foreign countries - Ghana, England & Germany. All have socialized medicine.

Trust me...we don't want it here.

One Ballot:

Looks like someone forgot what they learned in High School Government class! That is why it is called a PRIMARY!! In the November general election they will all be on ONE ballot and you may vote for whomever you want.

I'm not a huge fan of either candidate, but I can't support a candidate that wants to try to negotiate with Iran (obama) its not going to work, they don't want to talk. So I guess I'll cast my ballot for the lessor of two evils
