HAMILTON, Mo. — A Burlington, Mo., family ended up in a ditch after a mother fell asleep while driving on U.S. Highway 36, about a mile west of Hamilton.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Elnora Schrock, 39, fell asleep while driving a 1987 Chevrolet east on Highway 36. The Chevrolet traveled off the right side of the highway and came to rest in a ditch.
Ervin Schrock, 40, was taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center, but he left before being treated, said hospital spokeswoman Carol Arthur. Other injuries in the wreck were Mrs. Schrock and the couple’s seven children: Evelyn, 13; Berlin, 11; Brian 10; Rosita, 9; Kevin, 7; Cynthia, 6; and Suzanna, 3. Mrs. Schrock and the children refused treatment at the scene, according to the patrol.
Both adults and the 3-year-old were wearing seat belts. The other children weren’t wearing seat belts.
The highway patrol cited Mrs. Schrock for careless and imprudent driving and failure to secure a baby in a booster seat.
What about ticketing her for all those kids not in seat belts? What type of vehicle was it? I ask because there are not a lot of vehicles out there that have 9 seat belts.

I'm just glad that everyone is well, and this lesson-learned that didn't come with a tragic loss. Definitely a wake-up call.

Makes you wonder about the selectivity of charges that are brought and the tickets that are issued. How do they justify issuing tickets to some for seat belt violations if not for all. I am glad as well that no one was seriously hurt although I can't believe they all refused treatment...

I highly doubt this was a first offense, just the first time there was an accident and it was caught. Odd that there is just a ticket for no booster seat (I assume for the buckled 3 year old) and not the unbuckled children.

Parents are far from being perfect, and just because they made an error, doesn't make them drunkin rednecks-I really don't see how one could draw that correlation? We all make mistakes ya know, I know I have.
