I commend the News Press on their endorsement of Senator McCain. Judging by many of the posts over the past months, I am guessing many will disagree.

The choice of his running mate was a brilliant marketing move. She can be an exciting and strong partner. However, I have reservations about her ability to lead the country. I hope that Governor Palin is not needed to step up to the Oval Office.

I am not going to waste space, Readers, or your time, about why Senator Obama will not get my vote. There are those who don't need to listen, and those that won't.

Just more proof that the "Empire" (yeah, right) lacks creativity, culture, class, imagination amd inspiration. Fortunately there are those that at least attempt to challenge the narrowmindedness inherent in the area.

That being said, it is Heartland that owns the walls that the art is hung on, therefore they get to say what should and shouldn't be on them. I question Ms. George's honesty and willingness to take responsibility when she said it was the Art Council's decision to not allow the pictures to go up. I would guess some higher-up at Heartland influenced that decision strongly.

Perhaps a banjo and John Deere exhibit would be more in line for the tastes of the area.

For some, facts have very little to do with their reality. It is frightening how this element of society continues to grow and grow and grow. It is almost like the ebola virus spreading. People, protect yourself from this disease by learning facts, not rhetoric. And yes, I am prepared for the names to be flung at me (lotsa tissues ready for the boo-hoos -- sarcasm for those too snapped to otherwise understand).

Anyone stupid enough to run a RR crossing that is activated deserves what comes to them. Trains will ALWAYS win in a collision with your vehicle.

A call I worked in another state involved a Mom late for an appointment who chose to try to beat a train. By some miracle, the baby in the ejected baby seat was fine, some 40-feet from the tracks. Mom was eventually okay, too, but her car was destroyed. Another few inches and I would have been putting two people into body bags.

A few other targets for blame:

A Democratic Congress that pushed loan companies to be "more fair" to lower income individuals and loosen minimal requirements for loans to be obtained.

Those who chose to sign loan agreements that they knew they couldn't keep up with. Yes, I know many were lied to by loan comapnies, playing with their desire for the American Dream. And before you start berating me, I do not believe I could in good conscience sign a loan, as I am fearful of my ability to pay it off, that's why I currently rent.

Every single clown in the Senate and House that attached their silly little riders onto the final version of the bailout (NOT rescue) plan.

OOPS!! Correction to above:

Let's make that "...faced off against being considered mainline government."

Like it or not, she was eloquent and vivacious last night, and may have earned several thousand votes, as well as lost some.

She got a few slapshots on Obama, bodychecked the media, and faced off against doubts she was mainline government. A true hat trick.

I am concerned that she glossed over the Bristol situation. "Like all families, we have our ups and downs" qualifies as glossing over. If she was better at teaching her daughter NOT to do the up and down (or at least with protection), Palin wouldn't be facing Grandmahood.

Someone else mentioned how uncomfortable Babydaddy looked. I am wondering if he was forced to marry into the family by the lure of $$$ or threats of who-knows-what. I'm kinda thinking he didn't get down on his knees (insert joke if you like) and preach his love for the girl and beg for her hand in marriage. Yesterday may have been the first time ever the boy put on a suit.

There is a bigger issue that I have not seen addressed yet: If there is a special President/VP bathroom in the Oval Office, are there going to be problems about Seat Up / Seat Down?

Heaven forbid one actually attempts responsibility!! Next thing is people would expect the government to pay for daycare, meals and your utilities!!

For those who are wanting universal health care, could you imagine how taxes would be impacted? They would be through the roof!! Can you imagine some governMENTAL agency taking / making doctors' appointments for you? Take a look at Canada's medical system and see how long it takes for an appointment or procedure to be scheduled.

Yes, if you get sick or injured, you SHOULD be treated. You ARE also expected to pay for services received whether it be by insurance or some other means. It isn't that hard to make arrangements with any medical institution before it goes further. Noone should be expected to plunk down several thousand dollars all at once. That isn't realistic. Just as you are required to have insurance for the priviledge (not right) to drive, maybe some form of health insurance should be a requirement

In a free capitalistic marketplace one is able to shop around and buy the coverage he / she would like, as another poster wrote. That priviledge should be denied? WTH? What better way to bring down the price of insurance than make it extremely competitive?

Yes, I too, have experienced the charms of Northwest with nastygrams and the occasional phone call received (never to the level others have said they have experienced). Lots of digging on my part and lots of nasty phone calls on my part got my bill reduced significantly, and I eventually paid the part that I was obligated to. And yeah, it WAS my OWN fault for not making payment arrangements and blowing the bills off before it got to the level it did.

Though these recipes are certainly interesting and intriguing, I'm not sure a family-read newspaper is the appropriate place for such material. Teen drinking is a reality, and I feel this feature may not be helping the situation.
