i would support a smoking ban in public places if it was actually enforced. besides, statistics support increased revenues in businesses that don't allow smoking, or designate outdoor only smoking areas. the problem is good luck getting the simpleton smoker to understand that their nasty habit is harmful to others. their attitude is, "if it bothers you, go some place else." irresponsible.

mm1967, there is a greater picture here that some folks may not know about. 3 years ago when we had a general county election, there were mailers that went out about tom mann. there were 3 or 4 i believe that painted him in a really negative light. i've known tom for years, and he is an honest and open person. he does not back down fro what he believes, and i think that is what got him beat in 06. jeff roe's axiom stratagies were paramount in getting him defeated. i have friends in columbia mo, where he used to apparently work, and he does not have a very good reputation down that way either. it was rumored that the Herzog family paid the money to axiom to get tom beat. there was a proposal from Herzog to build a rail car factory on the east side of riverside near a residential area. tom listened to his consituents, and voted against it. Herzog's had it in for him ever since. the money he paid axiom was a drop in the bucket compared to what they would have lost in not moving their rail car divsion to st joe. so there is a reason to pay attention to these peoople, they do pose a threat politically to anybody that stands in the way of progress. please don't take my post as an insult, but as informatory. thank you.

i think it's funy that we went from having a budget surplus every year with mr mann, mr crokett, and mr archdeiken, to having to lay off good workers, not get our county roads maintained 4 months out of the year and scrounging for every last loose dollar to meet a budget with the "new leadership." royal turner, and dan hausman need to go. neither one of them seems to have a clue on how to govern the economics of this county. things for the county have only gotten worse. do the research folks. we need the old guard back in the courthouse.

this board scored a victory. not a victory against roe, herzog, and the rest of the cronnies, but for our kids. do the members of the board need to remain accoutable, and provide transparency? absolutley, they have 2 employers, the voters, and our kids.
jeff roe is a parasite, herzog is a menace. he doesn't want a public school in the northeast part of town so his kids won't want to go to a public school. Herzog hates this town. if it wasnt for the old man, they'd have left a long time ago. these are the people paying axiom stratagies. if the county were to grow some kahonies and stand up to these people, maybe stand up to herzog, something might get done in this town.

what a great idea. when i was a kid (not to sound too old here) the drive in's (yes there were 2), were a great place to meet up, catch a flick, and even a non-threatening place to hook up. thanks for reviving the old.

what a story. i have another one. there was a teenage girl that was snatched by her newly ex-boyfriend down in kansas city-grain valley i believe east of blue springs. there has been not one mention of an amber alert for this young lady, or the young man that has ties to this community in this paper, or on kq2. shame on both of you for not reporting this. fortunatley the police had leads that led them to either a friend or relative of the boy here in st, joseph. thank goodness for a happy ending. this is just one instance, but the local news media needs to be doing a much better job in reporting the news. latley what these flops call news has been nothing more that human interest, and gossip. report the news. that is why we subscribe to your services.
