Car speeding on Belt leads to crash

I have seen so many cars and motorcycles (usually "crotch rockets") over the years flying down the Belt. I'll be doing the speed limit and get passed like I'm sitting still. And I can't tell you how many times people have pulled right out in front of me from a parking lot or business on the Belt. I rarely see any police sitting or patrolling anywhere around the Belt. I personally think we need more police presence and maybe these horrible drivers would be stopped.

Hot dogs cited as high risk for kids

rightchoice--i understand you now! :) I know that sometimes it seems so silly that things that have been "common sense" forever are all of a sudden put on the front burner. But it is so sad to hear that kids are still choking on things they shouldn't be eating...I cringe when I see small toddlers with their mouths full of popcorn. Obviously it's not a new issue...they've said for years hot dogs can cause choking. Why on earth they're just now focusing on making the public aware with warning signs is beyond me. But warning signs aren't gonna hurt anybody so I guess if they start putting warning labels on everything we'll all just have to get used to it...and keep in mind, someone will undoubtably look at that warning and say "I didn't know that!". :)

Hot dogs cited as high risk for kids

rightchoice--you say, "it is common sense a hot dog would be a choking risk"; yet in your previous post you said, "Everyone told me to make sure that I cut them up so they were round and it wouldn't be such a choking risk... I remember when my little boy was 1 with a mouth full of teeth running around my living room eating a hot dog, I guess this would make me a bad parent.." Ok, I'm confused! The recommendation is to cut them lengthwise and into small pieces. So, if you'd have had better information back then, would you have cut the hot dogs differently? I was merely making a point (not going off my rocker) that people are so quick to gripe about any information given out anymore....everyone screams "common sense" but you do realize that not everyone has that, don't you? Some people need the advice....why make it such a point to criticize? I only asked if you were offended because it seems that would be the only reason to vent. Anyway, didn't mean to get your hackles up, I was just curious.

I find it incredible that people are slamming this issue. Products get recalled all the time for "possible" danger. Obviously accidents happen and you can choke on anything. But why not be more aware and more careful so when you're feeding your children you remove a good portion of risk? I think that the warnings are good and will hopefully prevent a lot of deaths. I can't believe that some are taking this issue and turning it into a whine-fest...I would think the lives saved would be worth the discussion. Mr_America & rightchoice, are you really THAT offended and bothered?

Reward offered after cat is shot with arrow

Also, forgive me if things have changed, but a few years ago we had problems with stray cats. I called the shelter and was told that since there is no leash law, the shelter will NOT attempt to catch cats. But, they will bring you a live trap if you want one and they will pick up a cat that has been caught....UNLESS it has a collar. And I don't believe it even had to have a tag, just a collar, but I could be wrong. I'm not a cat hater but I do dislike the fact that cats are allowed to wander the neighborhoods, pottying and spraying wherever they want. I understand that cats are roamers but it's not fair to hold cat owners to a different standard. I'd like it if the city would put a cat leash law into effect too. Of course, people with outside cats would probably not license them so no one would know or could prove who they belong to. But at least the city catcher could trap the cats instead of waiting for PO'd people to do it.

I guess the shelter needs to clarify "recently found". I thought I was doing a good deed by keeping the stray dog in my fenced in yard, feeding him, watering him and playing with him the week I had him while trying to contact his owner. (And believe me, it wasn't a picnic...he was young and a big dog and constantly bothered my 2 smaller house dogs every time they went outside.) To be told that I'd be charged to surrender him if I admitted I had him for a week was a shock....and I WAS told that. I understand adoption fees and I understand surrender fees if you're asking the shelter to take care of your animal UNTIL adoption....but they only keep them for what, a week, before euthanzing? However, in my instance, there should never have been a discussion about a surrender fee...he wasn't my dog.

Oh Pops-Don't go there! dlk-I really hope you weren't serious about the trap & water barrel....that's barbaric. I found a dog roaming my neighborhood & took him to my vet to be checked for a microchip & was surprised to find that he was a patient of my vet. They gave me the owner's info & I tried to contact them for a week. Thinking they may have been out of town or something, I kept the dog & left several messages. Finally, I had to take the dog to the shelter because I have 2 inside dogs & no desire for an outside pet. I happened to mention at the front desk that I'd been taking care of the dog for a week & was told to "keep that to myself". I didn't know, but if you keep a stray while trying to find the owner, you are considered the new owner & have to pay for the shelter to take it. The shelter attendant looked up the dog's id & found that he had been adopted only 2 mos earlier. Don't know if the owners ever took the dog back home, but I hope they were fined.

Officer cleared after investigation

Did I MISS something? Witnesses....within ear shot of the conversation? Which article states that? Video....that has sound and picks up the entire conversation? Again, which article states that? Either I've totally missed some very vital information about this story or Schnauzer is totally making crap up....or Schnauzer was there which he has refused to say. So, with all that said, again, how is my argument "unreasonable"? If you have PROOF that the officer NEVER said anything about cuffing or putting the woman in his car, by all means, please share it! And if the 911 call has been released, please tell me where I can hear or read it. Oh yeah...."the PD never gave fault to the officer"....why do you think the whole cover up theory is running so rampant? Duh! Like I said, obviously Schnauzer is in this for the rhetoric...not for the truth. Schnauzer...abducted? I should think they'd let him go in less than a minute because he'd debate them to death.

Officer cleared after investigation

I'm starting to think Schnauzer is simply sticking to his/her guns just to see how far this will go. If he/she still refuses to acknowledge that the circumstances could have been as stated above, I really believe this is nothing more than his/her attempt at wasting time and it's time to put this one to rest. Anyone with intelligence can see that the scenario above is totally plausible....denying that is just wanting to argue and I'm sure we all have better things to do than engage Schnauzer in an endless game of "what if?".

Officer cleared after investigation

The woman for requesting help & information or the officer for not calling in? I say, NO ONE is 100% at fault. The officer may not have felt the need to call the situation in (here is where the suggestion of policy change comes in to play), but can we really beat down this woman because she took for face value what dispatch said?! This is the "other side of the coin" everyone has been trying to get you to acknowledge.
