Of course everyone who has commented negatively about this article will be called a "racist"...which is complete BS. I'm fed up with Americans having to bend over backwards to accommodate those who choose to come to this country without learning to speak the language (let alone legally).
I find it arrogant and disrespectful of these people to come to America and expect us to grovel at their feet and make all these concessions for them. God forbid I walk out the door of my home IN THE UNITED STATES and expect the people I interact with to speak english.
I would NEVER voluntarily choose to live in a different country where English wasn't the dominant language and expect the populace to change the fabric of their country to suit me...and they call Americans arrogant and selfish. Please.
If you think healthcare is expensive with substandard service now, just wait till its free...
I can't wait till 2010! We need Healthcare REFORM, not government run healthcare. I get so sick of the President and all the Democrats telling everyone theres nothing in the bill that forces you to Obamacare, if you like your insurance and doctor you can keep them...thats nothing more then a slick shell game. Do you get screwed by insurance companies? Hell yes you do and it needs fixed but who do you think is going to screw you more? Private business or the Government? I think the phrase "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help" speaks volumes about our healthcare situation right now.
While it may be true that theres nothing in the bill that forces this all upon you they convienently leave out the fact that if all these rules where put into place you'd eventually have no choice but to "volentarily" join the public option because private insurance would go out of business. The costs to maintain it would go through the roof and you'd get worse care then you do now with it. Employers would stop carrying it and would no longer offer it as a benefit. So yeah, sure...the bill doesn't force you on the public option but thats where you'll end up over time.
But thats the Lefts goal to begin with so its not surprising. They want you completely and entirely dependent on the government for everything so they can control you (all in the name of social justice of course...). If you get your housing, food, healthcare, transportation, and living expenses from the government then are you really a free individual? No and you'll always be beholden to Uncle Sam.
If we go down this road there will be no stopping it until we fall just like the Soviet Union did in the 80s. Won't happen overnight but you'll wake up one day and wonder what happened to your country.
Minimum wage is a joke. All it does is screw everyone across the board, especially those who make just a little bit more than min. It serves to lessen the value of every single person making over minimum wage whether you're making $8 an hour or $50 an hour.
In the middle of a recession, minimum wage earners still get their raise? Really? Tell me how that's fair to everyone else who are busting their tail to make ends meet. I make four times minimum wage by getting an education and paying my dues over the years. Because of this recession I haven't received a pay raise the past two years and I doubt its in the cards for the 2010 schedule either. I'll be doing more work (because of layoffs in my area) for what I was paid three years ago. I know I'm not the only one out there who is fed up with this.
Where's my raise? I sure as hell pay enough taxes to support all these damn government programs. Where is my break for doing the best I can?
Wait, that's right. If you do the best you can you don't get a break. Nobody who actually works does. I don't care if you're a college graduate working in a professional field or a hard working factory worker putting in 50+ hours a week. In the eyes of the government were making more then enough to pay our own way AND absorb the across the board price increases to everyday items that come from Minimum Wage increases.
Amen. I just commented on the other helmet story before I read yours. This is pretty much my feelings exactly. You should have the right to make your own call. I too will always wear my helmet mainly because there are too many people pre-occupied with their phone or other gadgets. Main reason is because I don't want to end up regretting NOT wearing my helmet...
Love the comments so far. Its nice to see there are people out there that realize if you want something you have to work for it. There are way too many people who CHOOSE not to work because they haven't developed any skills to make a good wage. They'd rather just sit back and let the big hand of government support them off the hard work of the rest of us.
I don't believe that just because someone chooses to better themselves that person should have to the pay for someone who makes the choice to do nothing, life is what you make it! Stop waiting around for someone else make your life better. If you do what you've always done you'll get what you've always got.
I ride, and whether it's law or not I'm wearing a helmet because there are too many idiot drivers texting/talking on the phone that put those of us who do ride responsibly at risk. I won't deny that there have been many times I'd loved to jump on my bike without a helmet but I know better. I have no doubt that riding without a helmet is the greatest way to ride. It only takes one moron pulling into your lane making you wipe out and providing you live...you'll regret not donning your helmet.
Bottomline, let people do what they want. You're taking a greater risk anytime you get on a bike period. As far as the legal action in an accident is concerned, I think like anything else a bit of common sense needs to be applied to each situation in court. If you're an idiot riding wheelies on your crotch rocket down the center lane of the belt highway and crash...too bad so sad. You don't get a dime of anyone elses money and I could care less about your issues. If you're following the rules of the road and not making an ass of yourself and are involved in a wreck then you should have the right to sue an individual.
Its common sense, right and wrong people! Its not that hard to figure out.
*Liberals afraid to protest? -- Yeah right. I guess thats why all you saw in the "news" was liberal nutjobs crying about the poor innocent terrorists (err: freedom fighters...) and their rights. You libs laugh and make fun of Foxnews and call them to the carpet for being right-biased. Really? Is it not enough that you have EVERY SINGLE MAINSTREAM MEDIA OUTLET IN YOUR CAMP? God forbid traditional conservative people have one place to go for their side of the story.
*How much did Bush spend on the war? -- Please. The amount that Obama is growing government is flatout dwarfing the amount spent on the war. Its funny that the left screamed and pouted about the billions being spent on the war but don't bat an eye at the trillions being laid out to grow government now. Enjoy your change.
*Everybody wants some cabbage too -- Estimates are that half of the population DO NOT PAY ANY TAXES TO BEGIN WITH! Those same people cry out to soak the rich. News flash, its already happening. What are you libs going to do when you've finally "won" and make the evil rich people (who pay for all your social programs) poor like yourself. Well? Whos going to pickup your tab then?
*I don't file no income taxes. How that gonna help me out? -- Quit crying then. You're already getting a free right off the backs of everyone rich on down to making just enough to NOT get any tax refund or qualify for assistance. You make me sick. The fact that you're poor isn't my fault. Opportunities abound. Its up to the individual to make the most of them. If you choose not to, why should I have to pay your way?
I don't have a problem assisting the disabled, helpless, or giving a hand up to those who have fallen on hard times. Its the clueless that CHOOSE to depend on the system and wait for someone to fix their problems that I have issues with.
I don't have a problem with a fair amount of the programs out there today. It would be hypocritical of me to do so as I partook in a few of them in my youth. I received food stamps twice in my life after a job loss and I also took advantage of PEL grants to help me attend MWSU. Thats the difference though, I did something with the assistance I received and didn't make it a lifestyle choice.
My problem is with the people who willingly drop out of school, work one entry level job after another, spend their time drunk/high, and never do anything to improve their station in life. These people then fall prey to the "class warfare" argument and feel its okay to soak the rich. If your poor, its not my fault. Do something about it. The opportunities are there if you're willing to put in the effort. You may get "assistance" for things but you'll never elevate yourself without plenty of effort.
Bottomline, I have no problem with these programs to assist the helpless and those who have fallen on hard times...not the lazy as sin clueless who "chose" to do nothing with their lives.
A social discussion of socialism

Committee to discuss Schaaf comment
"enslaved taxpayers because they would be footing the bill for able-bodied adults."
This is an ethics violation? REALLY? And people wonder why racism is alive and well in so many parts of society. Its this kind of BS that feeds it.
I think the problem is that the democrats don't like the comparison because its true. So, they have to pull attention away from the facts. Typical.
