One more comment, the money that can be made in the debt industry and related companies is unreal. Yes one can actually earn a good income off of others debt. One has to see the WHOLE picture to fully understand what is happening.
Before ANYONE complains about people running up credit card debts, rememember the credit card companies are in the money of making money, and they know what they are doing when pushing up those credit limits, plus Washington wanted to raise the standard of living for all, aka sub prime home loans. Plus for those lucky enough to have had good paying jobs with benefits have NO idea what the REAL job market is like today, and has been for the last 20 years. Why do you think MWSU can charge more for tution, students have access to credit, why do you think you pay everything with a credit card including utilities, because all of these companies KNOW they can NOT increase their profit margins and market share IF consumers do not have access to a method to pay. The credit companies just sell the debt to our friends in China. Think what most earn in St. Joseph, do you think if we did NOT have access to credit how LOW the standard of living would be in St. Joseph. I think more and more people will be in bankrutpcy court, I have been there, and know others that have or will be, it is very common. P.S. I SELL credit today as part of my job, and my company pushes me to sell MORE.
I for one know for a fact that the retailers at the Shoppes are NOT all happy. The developer over charged on the leases, and now the investors that now own sections of the North Shoppes had to reduce the monthly rents, cutting their income or return on their investment. Also what is good sales for St. Joseph may NOT be good sales for a major retailer that has to answer to investment bankers in New York. Yes most of the jobs at the North Shoppes do not pay well, or offer any benefits, but again that is retail. Anyone that has worked in the retail industry knows not to expect anything in return for working in retail, and if you do get any benefits, discounts, etc..it is a bounus.
This isn't funny because you have a product of the St. Joseph School District and OUR community. This person is reflecting how WE have created a person that will NEED society to care for them the remainder of their life. Prisons cost money, lots of money, plus this person needs a lot of help to stay out of trouble once he is released from prison. Also our legal community need to remember they need to project a professional image, and making negative comments about individuals defending themselves in court is NOT professional. Our local court system needs to be more concern about why these individuals are there, and what can be done to keep people out of the court system. Not impressed with this case, or anyone involved in handling of this matter.
My friends and I use to go there to dine but since none of us have any money these days, we have stopped dinning out each weekend. In fact we stopped going to movies, theater, and casino. Still wondering how I am going to come up with two years worth of personal property tax on my auto to get my auto license renewed later this year. Yes folks the jobs are gone, and when we can NO longer pay our taxes maybe someone will FINALLY smell the coffee. Yes we can all vote YES on a tax levy, does not mean we will be able to pay the increase?
I see the positive to the mayor national coverage, puts St. Joseph back on the map. Hype good or bad, is free PR. On the negative side, I work at the shoppes and sorry to say can NOT afford to spend money at the martini bar, or the soon to open steak house. I have also have tried self employment, but since I did NOT receive bank loans or gov. assistance, ran out of money. This country is in trouble, and the current administration is trying its best to undo 8 years of damage, domestic and international.
Seems like banning Mrs. Lawson now is "AFTER" the fact.
I still think the Lawson case would have never happened if she had been a paid county employee instead of an independent contractor.
Again, this whole case should remind each one of us to make sure we have our affairs in order and an individual appointed to manage our affairs if we are NOT able.
This includes estate planning, trusts are a great way to avoid probate court. I have a trust, and have had one for years, updated it a few times also.
I work at a North Shoppe store, and have been employed in retail for years around St. Joseph. Monk_Ironman knows of what he speaks, mall owners and developers control the mix of retail. Zona Rosa was built to attract St. Joseph shoppers, and it does. St. Joseph civic leaders missed the boat 25 years ago, but again most of those individuals are retired, or dead. Customer service is about the ONLY thing any local or national retailer can do to build business here, but most chain stores have strict guidelines on what their employees can and can not do. Local banks need to finance local retailers, forget the big retail boys, St. Joseph is NOT a proft center for them.
The citizens of St. Joseph wanted all the chain restaurants, you asked and you received, but someone forgot what about the restaurants already here! With NO real increases in the population, spreading out those dollars even more thinner, then add in the low wages for the masses here, and it is not a formula for economic success.
St. Joseph Bankruptcies surge 28 percent in 2009

County miffed over impact of TIFs
One more comment, the cost of low prices, low margins, and even lower retail wages.

Fewer customers cost Las Palma's
The citizens of St. Joseph wanted all the chain restaurants, you asked and you received, but someone forgot what about the restaurants already here!
