New Campaign slogan for McCain/Palin:
"Yeah, I got your Baked Alaska right here"

Is it just me or does Ms. Palin bare a striking resemblance to Peggy Hill?

But seriously, I'm don't think her speech was quite a homerun, but was surely a stand up triple. She mocked McCain's opponent, tried to put the media in their place, and reitereated her position that she is an outsider and glad of it.

It is regrettable the unwed pregnant daughter issue was not more addressed.

I believe an elected official should be held to a higiher standard than your Average (or Below Average) Joe. Thousands of children each year end up pregnant out of wedlock. Some go to the abortion clinic, some have their child and become leeches of society, some marry and then divorce, and some marry and have a successful life. And some don't even know (care?) who mybabydaddy is. It is a reality nowadays that teenage pregnancy is common.

For those that believe Ms. Palin is a staunch moralist, then she failed to influence her daughter enough to follow her path. And now she is expected to have influence on the future of the world?

I was excited to cast my vote for Senator McCain. I will now have to consider voting for a 3rd party candidate, especially in light of other issues are now starting to surface (including the firing an Alaska public safety commissioner who refused to fire a State Trooper who was somehow mixed up with Palin's sister).

I never thought I'd be typing these words together, but I commend Senator Obama for so far taking the high road in this matter.

Joezmel and others in similar situations, I cannot begin to fathom your pain for what you have had to endure with your family, much less the "angels of mercy" (eyeball roll) at Northwest. You have my thoughts, prayers and sympathies.

It is at best sad that THE MONOPOLY goes to such measures. Of course they deserve payment for the work they performed, but from what is being said on this post, their accounting department needs much work in human relations.

I don't have details handy, but there are foundations and charities out there to help with exactly such tragedies when they arise.

God watch over you and your precious child.

To "eight" and "bad enough"

Yes, I would prefer a rich man in the White House leading our country. If a "poor" man can't take care of himself and his family how could he POSSIBLY be entrusted to run a country?

Being "blessed" to not having to want? How about educating, improving, striving and achieving?

I did not hear Mr. Reily's performance, but I would imagine his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was much better than Roseanne's. <g>

I think I have encountered the same customer non-service person at the "D-word," which is why I switched some time ago.

Yes, there are many more households in St. Joseph than in Savannah, but city-managed recycling would be a great idea. When I lived in another state, the town (admittedly, in a very well-to-do part of the country) provided a recylcing bin to each household and picked it up curbside once a week, no charge. It was a city service just like police and fire. That way, we could all still choose our own waste collection company.

As for those who choose to keep garbage museums or critter condos on their property, Code Enforcement needs to take an active role.

Mr. Sheehan, I wish you well in all your future endeavors. I enjoyed your reading your columns (many of which I agreed with), as well as your humor and honesty in them. The editorial page has certainly lost much of its luster since your unfortunate and ill-concieved departure. Thank you also for bringing culture and fun to this city.

Nationality, no (shouldn't figure into the equation whatsoever). Legal status, absolutely. Those who enter a country (not necessarily even the U.S.) without the proper endorsement of the legal process are committing a crime, and are therefore criminals (and the DUI is then a second crime). Fair? Not for me to say. True? Yes.

The lack of cooperation between the city and county sadly has a long history. Who remembers the bickering over office space and parking spaces at the Law Enforcement Center? And how about the Library Wars of the late 90's? And these two entities are considering a merger? A spirit of teamwork is needed for what could be a great revenue maker for both Buchanan County and St. Joseph.
