It is high time the school district re-visit their open enrollment policy. If children live within bicycle or walking distance of a school they should be mandated to attend that school. I believe a 20 minute walk is reasonable. We are concerned about childhood obesity. Two twenty minute walks a day would be a good start towards attacking this problem. I also believe parents should share the resposibility of getting their children to school. This might open the door to more parental involvement with their childrens education. With the high fuel cost, bussing should be limited to extreme cases.

I believe every team owner who has dupped our City Council into spending money on Phil Welch said they were in for the long haul, yet where are they now? Effort after effort to draw fans to the ball park have failed. St. Joe fans have shown they do not support these low talent summer league teams. Why keep spending our tax dollars to satisfy the egos of out of town "waana bees"? Currently our city has a wooden bat league. Last year 30 teams participated. Every game drew a nice crowd. Most players were local, but some came from K.C. and other areas of Northwest Misssouri. Why not fix Phil Welch Stadium and feature these teams as well as High School games. You might actually then see decent crowds at the ballpark again. Please stop making the same mistakes made by past councils. Wake up City Council!!!

This is another example of how health care in St. Joe and Northwest Missouri is advancing to the highest level thanks to one system serving our communities. The benefit of this expansion goes to the patient!

There he goes again. Rob Schaaf insinuated he was not a "hater" in a letter to the editor just a few short weeks ago. Yet here he goes again, useing his position as a State Representative to carry out his vendetta against Heartland Health. Time and time again he has let his capacity for logic become blinded by his obviously strong dislike for Heartland. The current issue is his willingnes to kill legislation meant to slow down the health care crisis in this state because he can't have his way by including a provision that would repeal or severly limit the Certificate of Need Committee's responsibilities. The truth is the C.O.N. plays a significant role in keeping health care costs from escalating. When an area becomes overloaded with hospitals, x-rays, catscans, MRI's, operating rooms, etc., community health care centers who are forced to accept patients without insurance loose while the others are allowed to "cherry pick" patients with the ability to pay. People in these communities end up paying higher rates while quality is diluted. C'mon Dr. Schaaf be a man come out from behind the smoke and mirrors and let the voters know your true motives!
