First of all, you do not need a gas-guzzeling, huge, psuedo-military vehicle to show houses. There are plenty of mid- and large-sized sedans that can do the job equally well with much better gas milage. I hope Miss Rose enjoys filling up that Hummer when gas goes back up to $4/gallon (and it will because the oil companies know we'll pay it).
Secondly, I'm tired of people telling me "It's my right to drive whatever vehicle I want." I would agree, except we really don't pay the full cost of the fuel we use. If we did, the cost of a gallon of gas would be $10-15.
If the Missouri contractors wish to win the bid for the next major project, perhaps they should work on their competitiveness compared to their interstate rivals.
Perhaps we're going about this the wrong way. Instead of trying to get the car manufacturers to build more fuel efficient cars, maybe we should raise the excise tax on gasoline by a couple dollars per gallon. That way, if you still choose, you can continue to drive that gas-guzzler, but (recent) history has shown that this will naturally drive up demand for more fuel efficient cars.
Either that or we can stop subsidizing oil companies with tax breaks and pay the true cost of a gallon of gas, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-15/gallon.
Downtown is supposed to be the heart and soul of the city. That being said, St. Joseph has the saddest downtown area out of any city I have visted or lived in. What does that say about the people that live here?
It is especially sad since there is a fairly major university here, yet all the college student go to KC for the weekend.
As a student at Mo West, I'm still waiting to hear how this will actually benefit the school or the students. Other than, of course, the prestiege of being a student at the school where the Chiefs play.
I'm glad this proposition didn't pass. After the sales tax increase was passed to further fund our dismal bus system, I was beginning to think that the people of St. Joseph actually liked to be taxed more. Good to see that I was wrong.
Bigger SUVs suit some well

Do you support a TIF for a Downtown entertainment district?

Senior tax overwhelmingly defeated

Mixed emotions surround senior tax
First the sales tax increase to fund the failing bus system and now this. How much more can they tax us?

Striving for a green clean
I think this a good step foward towards a more eco-friendly society. Now we need a decent recycling program.

No cell phones allowed at pool
"I'm 38. I'm a mom. If I want to use my phone, I should be able to use it," Ms. Schafer said.
I love people who have a sense of entitlement!
