Roe used our school district as dry run practice for his big tricks to come in KC and state elections. He is a slimeball opportunist without any regard for the damage he causes. He will soon connect with some so called conservative politician with his impressive resume of dirty tricks. Then poor Funk will lose his golden child.
What exactly was his interest in this little town... or it's children.

Goodbye to our respected Brother. Ival was inducted as a honorary firefighter by agreement of both fire management and Local #77 in the 1980's. Ival was issued firefighter's turnout gear which he used often to document fires. He has the respect and thanks of all St Joseph's Firefighters.
Firefighters Local #77 has established the Ival Lawhon Excellence in Media Reporting award in honor of Mr Lawhon's service to his profession and community.
He was both an artist and a fearless photo journalist and he will be missed.

I'd like to add this. The police make a few % more than firefighters, although the pays are quite similar. Since not just firefighters but also Police are subject to this Matrix pay plan, it is entirely possible that the pay of the police is skewed lower by having many younger officers. The Matrix is particularly unfair and punitive to any one hired in the last 9 years.

I am a career firefighter at the end of my 30+ year career. Firefighting in St Joe isn't dangerous?, you got to be kidding. I have had two major surgical repairs for serious on the job injuries. There is about 1 very bad house per week in ST Joe and here is a film of a small fire.

I've gone into rooms like that and some much worse ... many many times.
The city is NOT bargaining in good faith, I will never see the benefit of this negotiation but this pay structure penalizes everyone that is promoted. The city adopted a Matrix pay scale years ago that is in reality a pay cut for everyone promoted. The Matrix was some elaborate pay plan that isn't easy to understand. The Matrix raises have long ago been abandoned, but the lower Matrix pay at promotion remains. There is no way to catch up to other firefighters and newly promoted will always be paid much less than those not promoted. In other words a permanent pay cut at promotion.
Lucky to have a job, you bet. Screwed by creative bookkeeping..absolutely.

I am surprised Biff, living next to the park, missed the bigger issue. As far as I know, no resident made more than a few calls of complaint over a 4 year period of football practicing. One year it appeared 4 teams were practicing causing trash and parking problems. That year generated the most complaints.
By trying to circumvent the deed restrictions, city leadership was abridging the original agreement with Mr. France. The park maintains property values in an area that is mostly in decline. Changing the legal dynamic to benefit Bantaam football would have probably of resulted in the park being gradually transformed into a practice football field. This change would also result in a less desirable park affecting adjacent property values.
The park attracts many visitors wanting to fly kites, ride bikes with their kids, walk dogs, play ball, Frisbee, fly model planes, read books, just sit in the shade. It's beauty is it's simplicity. The cost to the city is simply cutting the grass. Not every park needs a specific function or equipment to be appreciated by the area residents.

I think the lack of comments are because, barring the museum issue, there are not a lot of significant problems. The problems seem more like sloppy bad bookkeeping than willful misconduct.

I am very aware of this business, I do not know Mr Garvey. this business has been run in a very irresponsible and damaging manner. The owner has illegally stored chemicals all over St Joseph in warehouses. The owner may be a nice man but he could care less about his neighbors. His workers do not have proper protections and he DID dump chemicals illegally. Reading some of the responses, I guess dumping is ok as long as the writers are not directly affected by the release.
You hypocrites would scream loudly if you lived next to a toxic storage warehouse. If he can't run his business within the law, then he should suffer the consequences. At least one person has paid dearly for his business practices.
