The furor over this case has died down, the anger has subsided as it always does. Everytime i read about one of these cases, it makes my heart sick. I have asked, begged, pleaded for someone to come in and investigate the powers that be in this county. Every time someone says, what can i do. We have lost 7 little angels in four years. mr. sheilds says he passed a bill several years ago to help with this issue. before the bill was passed, there were a lot less deaths in the same amount of time. So, how many babies and toddlers have to die, before someone actually does investigate. It's always the same, the Juvenile office blames DFS, DFS blames the juvenile office, and the prosecutor, doesn't charge these monsters correctly so they spend the maximum amount of time behind bars. Christopher Kerns will be released in 2 years, sooner for good behavior if they allow it. Still has never admitted guilt, but apologizes to us. Had the prosecutor charged him with more than second degree murder, mr. kerns would be in jail until he was middle aged. (hopefully) It is time to put a stop to this, it is time to figure out why our system doesn't work, buchanan county has the highest rate of child/toddler deaths due to abuse in the northwest region of the state. this extends to Atchison to Putnam Counties in the North, from Buchanan to Chariton Counties west to east, and Cass, Johnson, Pettis to the South, excluding Jackson county. When will it stop?

and no one is doing anything to find out why the people investigating the abuse charge against mom, didn't investigate the home this child was in. dss was at the home the morning this little angel died. 7 deaths of infants or toddler's in 4 years AFTER a bill was introduced to change things. As far as i am concerned, the gov office should send in a team for a seperate investigation as to why buchanan county is number on in child deaths in the northwest region. it's not something i want our county to be known for. missouri is 5th in the nation in child deaths, something needs to change now, not in a couple of years. emergency legislation should be passed. no one will do anything or say anything until another child dies. it is so sad to think why we believe it is acceptable for a child to die, and for it to take years for legislation to be passed to change things, but you can have a highway or a special day named after someone in a matter of months.

On Child abuse case delayed

the prosecutor's office has no business griping about delays in a case when they botched chris kerns case, and delayed my daughters case because they had the date wrong on the charge. and again, why is this man only being charged with second degree murder, he endangered the life of a child, and he abused this child which resulted in his death. the victims need to contact mr. scroggins and ask this question. believe me, the additional charges make a difference as to how they are sentenced.

Missouri ranks 5th, in the nation for deaths by child abuse. Buchanan County ranks no 1 in the north west region of Missouri. This region includes counties from Atchison to Putnam Counties in the North, from Buchanan to Chariton Counties west to east, and Cass, Johnson, Pettis to the South, excluding Jackson county. This is a large area to be number one for deaths of children. I have been harping about the need for change for 4 years, and it isn't just the reunification issue. there have been 7 deaths in 4 years, including my grandson who was murdered by someone who had a previous history of child and sexual abuse of a child according to a safe exam. the excuse we were given was, the doctors report was given to another worker not the one working the alleged abuse and molestation case. the case worker in caden's case didn't know about that report, but someone in jeff city knew of the previous allegations. the detective decided since my daughter and i lawyered up, WE did it. so he didn't investigate any further. i work in a law firm. Attitudes have to change along with policy. investigations need to be done, instead of guessing. i didn't want this to happen to another family, and i have contacted everyone i know, and everyone asks, what can i do. and now it has happened, again. how many children will it take?

Well, i spoke with someone i work with and she went to her child's parent-teacher conference this week. she has been disciplining her child for not bringing his science book home so she could help him with this subject. when she was at the parent teacher conference she found out that they don't have a book to bring home. now, earlier when this initially started i indicated that unless they could tell me why there were not enough school books, everyone said i don't believe that, there are other ways to teach, etc. well with a over a 30 million dollar reserve and not enough books for classes, why would i vote for anything other than the levy to sustain the school district? the teacher does have the info for the class on her blog or website or whatever, but not every home has a computer, so are those children just left out because the parent can't afford a computer to follow the lesson, and the school district doesn't have the money for books?

this isn't the first time evidence has been lost, it's just the first time they didn't have any to go forward with the case. if you haven't noticed, the whole system in buchanan county needs an over haul with the first being taking the people who believe they are untouchable out of office and not voting another of his puppets into office. until then, there will be no change.

here is what i think should be proposed, when abuse happens, it's a "team" that is supposed to investigate, that consists of, juvenile officer, DSS, detective. one doesn't know what the other is doing, one will accuse the other of not getting them the info, so to cure that, there needs to be a system in these cases where all of the players investigating the abuse can get on the computer, click on the childs name, and see everything the other members of the team have done, what documents they have etc. they should all be able to receive medical documents as well as any other thru an email or on this site, that way no one can pass the buck. all the info would be there at the touch of a button. believe me, no one will get the whole file from dfs or the juvenile office. that is why a bill in the house should be passed taking the worker off the case, and investigating the worker as well as everything else, shane schoeller a member of the house has introduced such a bill. ask that it be supported.

Again, I will say, the childrens division CAN FILE a petition to remove a child on their own, they don't have to wait for the juvenile office, they can even get a doctor or the police to say the child is in danger and have the child removed, they could have admitted the child to the hospital. so lets not feel bad about the children's division.
