What a moron! I did not vote for him, and would not vote for him for anything. He has always been abrasive and rude and condescending. His term cannot end soon enough. Jerk.
Bus safety. What a joke. They don't know what safely transporting kids is. One of the elementary drivers has to be the rudest woman I have ever met. My daughter will not ride a bus ever again. They cannot ensure safe travel and have proven it over and over.
I don't understand why the apartments at 35th and Messanie are going to Skaith. Makes no sense to me at all. We don't live in the apartments but our home is just 7 blocks from Mark Twain and we pass 3 schools to get to Skaith. We only have 1 child left in elementary school, the rest are in middle and high school and we were very surprised that the lines changed to move us from 7 blocks to 2+ miles. Transportation will be a nightmare if our transfer is not allowed, plus our daughter only has 2 years to go before she moves to middle school. I would really like for the SJSD to define hardship.
I am just curious, does this number include all the children who are currently on transfer? I believe from what I heard at the meeting last night that it does not. I believe that it only includes the children who will be moved from one school to another due to the redrawing of the lines. I would be very curious to know how many children are on transfer in the K-6 grades because that would dramatically increase the number of children being shifted for the next year if the board were to deny all transfers for 09-10 as it looks to be the plan.
I will run for school board. I have 4 kids in the schools here, I have been in and around this school district all my life having grown up here. It will be many more years before our last one graduates and I for 1 would love to see the board change. But people have to be willing to vote for new faces, not just who has the money, who lives in the right neighborhood, who is popular, etc. Vote for people who are willing to makes changes after listening to the community speak. I don't have high fancy degrees, I'm just an average ordinary joe who has kids in school, who is active and participates in all their schools and who wants to see the best we can offer however that looks. The question is, will you vote for someone like that?
It breaks my heart to know that this city speaks on the bond and the levy and tells our children NO, we don't care, we are so selfish we can't give up a few more dollars a year for you and your education. Add our home to the list of those now for sell and oh yea, our business too. We have no intention of sticking around here and watching this city deteriorate even further. That's right, our business, we will close the doors at the end of the school year, pack our family up and move on to a city who is progressive in their thinking and values our children. We will not allow our children to do with less than they deserve. You nay sayers should be ashamed of yourselves.
It was so disheartening to see the results precinct by precinct and realize that those who would be paying just a few dollars more a year out while seeing huge benefits spoke against the issues while those of us who would be paying quite a bit more spoke loudly yes.
The changes that will be made now will drive the final nails in the coffin of this dying community. And you will complain bitterly about how horrible this all is and guess what? Its going to be because you were too selfish to do the right thing.
It doesn't matter what you vote as long as you exercise your right to vote! Both sides have valid points. There are a lot of good questions that deserve to be answered and issues that have been brought out that should be addressed. But if you don't vote then you have no right to sit and complain about the results. Vote!
martz...you got it! Thats the stuff that people who don't have children at that age yet don't understand. We already pay so much for them to participate in activities and if we had to pay more we would seriously have to consider if we could keep them involved in all that. All our kids deserve a YES twice in April. Our parents certainly said yes to us, and now its time to pay it forward.
