Is it now? FYI...Nowhere was I imposing my beliefs...I was stating them, and that really seems to make you angry. (to the point that you feel it necessary to use derogitory remarks) How sad. Well, I am still going to celebrate Christmas, and I am still going to say 'Merry Christmas'. Just as an added FYI....shopping is not a part of our Christmas.

MichaelH....That's part of the problem today.....everyone wants a break.....at someone else's expense.

I celebrate Christmas. I say "Merry Christmas". It is obviously 'Christmas' to a lot of people or it would not be on the calendar as such. If 'Christ' based holidays are such a taboo or non-politically correct thing.......then those of you that choose not to recocognize them....please inform your employers. They could probably save a bundle by not giving you that bonus or holiday pay. You could even work on those days so the rest of us don't have to. You can't have it both ways. You either believe or you don't.

Some of my ancestors were too busy following the buffalo and others trying to avoid being burned at the stake, so I am sure that our totally fair and judicious government does not expect me or mine to ante up for any reparation payments. Besides, I am already working to not only pay for my existance, but for others to exist on 'the dole'. So see, no worries. Time for Revolution? It may be closer than you think. And no...I don't belong to any anti-government group...or have any knowledge of anything that everyone else doesn't have....I am just a poor, working to survive, old woman that feels it in her bones.

I stand behind my comment from yesterday.
To gr8fan.....not trying to sway your opinion of Chavez, or anyone else for that matter. Just pointing out that for the past few years there are some Americans that are pretty darn grateful to Chavez. It's pretty sad when America won't help Americans but the Government will spend oodles of money to help other countries. As for the oil....it's a speculative market...and the stockholders are speculating that we will pay whatever it takes to fill our cars....we may whine about it...but we will pay. While we are whining and paying, the government will continue to throw our tax dollars to the oil companies and car manufacturers to "finance their finding alternatives to this crisis". Kind of like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. I find it a little suspicious when it's announced that stockholders in the oil companies are showing record profits. It's not just about the oil...it's all about $$$$ and how the rich can stay rich and us working folks can foot the bill. I could go on, but I won't....because it won't change a thing.....this has turned into such a ME society, that most people can't see past their nose.

Just a little tidbit on Chavez.......when Joe Kennedy started his project of giving heating oil to the 'needy' so they wouldn't freeze or have to make choices between heat or food and medicine, he went to the 'Big 10' oil companies and asked if they could help with the project. Not one American company stepped forward.......Chavez (Citgo) stepped up to the plate and has been donating oil to keep Americans warm.

Again....he did not just walk in and take over...if we do not like how our government is....we need to get off our collective butts and insist on changes. Boo-hooing about it does't change anything. Perhaps yelling and demanding change at the top of our collective lungs to those that are suppose to represent us might help. We can be part of the problem or we can be part of the solution. If anyone believes that the President bears sole responsiblity for the our state of affairs.....re-examine how government works.

We have no one to blame for our current situations except ourselves. We have been warned for years what would happen if we kept accosting our planet. We choose to be apathetic and called those warning us crackpots or doomsdayers. Now that we are seeing the evidence such as severe weather changes....we want to say it's God's doing.
As for G.E.O.R.G.E.W.B.U.S.H....who put him in office? I don't think he just waltzed in and took over when no one was watching. GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE ....I think that means THE PEOPLE need to get involved, or at the very least speak up, instead of whining.
Alot of todays ills could be solved by simple solutions:
A. Quit finger pointing....wasn't attractive when we were children....it's not attractive now.
B. Take responsibility...whether it's for the planet, our government, or raising our children.
C. RESPECT....each other and the environment.

Smokers are already segragated in the restaurants. I don't know where you dined out, but I have not noticed a problem. Granted, I have not eaten at every eating establishment in town....but the ones I have seem to have the 'smoking' issue under control with adequate air systems and smokers and non-smokers in separate areas. This is an issue that you need to bring up with the propriator or dine somewhere else. My sinuses are frequently enflamed by those that over-do the cologne, but I would never endorse any law that would take away someone's rights. Everytime we give an inch.....we lose a mile. One of these days we'll wake up and wonder where our freedoms went. We will then be faced with a civil uprising unrivaled by any in history or we will be living in a cult-like society with every aspect of our daily lives mapped out for us. It's time to lose the 'me-instant gratification' attitudes and look at the big picture.
